SMU is Singapore’s first publicly-funded private university and the only one to occupy a state-of-the-art city campus, like many top universities in the world with campuses in the heart of their civic district. In line with our mission to nurture visionary entrepreneurs and global leaders with social responsibilities, SMU has always placed emphasis on steering our students away from textbook-based learning towards real-life practical exposure through class presentations, business case competitions, internships and business study missions.

We have witnessed many bright business ideas emerge from classes, competitions or even word of mouth. The SMU Business Innovation Generator (SMU BIG) was set up for the very purpose of promoting and nurturing entrepreneurial initiatives in the university. SMU BIG provides student teams and recent alumni with the expertise, networks and tools they need to make their ventures successful. One important initiative of the SMU BIG is to allocate an incubation space or laboratory within the city campus for selected SMU student groups to operate and execute their business ideas. All SMU student-led new business ventures are welcome to apply. We actively seek out interesting business proposals that clearly describe new businesses featuring innovative products and services. We encourage various business initiatives that have high competitive entry barriers and potential for addressing global markets and also those with prospect of attracting higher investments. |
